Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about how Kelaro works.

Privacy & Security

What happens to my bank statement PDFs?+
Nothing leaves your device. PDF processing runs 100% in your browser using PDF.js. Your statements are never uploaded to Kelaro's servers.
Does Kelaro store my financial data?+
No. For PDF extraction, all processing is local — we store nothing. For Open Banking sync, transaction data flows through our system only to write to your configured export destination, and is not retained.
Is Kelaro GDPR compliant?+
Yes. PDF data never leaves your device. Open Banking connections are governed by PSD2 regulations and operate under regulated access by GoCardless, an authorised payment institution.

PDF Extraction

Which Portuguese banks are supported for PDF extraction?+
ActivoBank, Bankinter, BPI, CGD, Millennium, Moey, NovoBanco, Revolut, Santander, and ABanca.
What file formats can I export to?+
All exports are in .xlsx format, compatible with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and most Portuguese accounting software.
Can I upload multiple statements at once?+
Yes, depending on your plan. Higher-tier plans support batch uploads of up to 100 files simultaneously.
What if my bank statement PDF is scanned or image-based?+
Kelaro uses Tesseract.js OCR to read scanned PDFs. Accuracy depends on scan quality, but the engine is tuned for Portuguese bank statement layouts.
How does Kelaro extract data from PDFs?+
Kelaro uses PDF.js to parse text-based PDFs, combined with Tesseract.js OCR for scanned documents. Bank-specific parsers then extract and normalise transaction data into a unified format.

Open Banking

What is Open Banking / PSD2?+
Open Banking is a European regulatory framework (PSD2) that allows licensed providers like Kelaro to securely access your bank's transaction data with your explicit consent. No credentials are shared.
Is it safe to connect my bank account?+
Yes. Kelaro uses GoCardless, a regulated Open Banking provider. You authorise access directly through your bank's secure interface — Kelaro never sees your login credentials.
Which banks support Open Banking sync in Portugal?+
Most major Portuguese banks support PSD2 Open Banking, including CGD, Millennium BCP, BPI, Santander, and Novo Banco. Availability depends on each bank's API.
How often does Kelaro sync my transactions?+
You can configure sync frequency per connection: twice daily, daily, or weekly.
Can I disconnect my bank at any time?+
Yes. You can remove any bank connection from the dashboard at any time. This revokes Kelaro's access immediately.

Export & Integrations

What does the exported Excel file look like?+
Exports follow a consistent schema: date, description, amount, currency, balance, and other available fields. You can customise column mapping and apply transformations per connection.
Can I export transactions directly to Google Drive or OneDrive?+
Yes. Kelaro supports automated sync directly to Google Drive and OneDrive. Configure a target file and sheet, and transactions are written automatically on each sync cycle.
Can I customise which columns appear in my export?+
Yes. Kelaro supports column templates — you can select, rename, and transform any available transaction field. Templates can be saved and reused across connections.

General

Who is Kelaro for?+
Kelaro is built for Portuguese accountants, fractional CFOs, SME finance teams, and anyone who needs to work with bank transaction data at scale.
How is Kelaro different from manually downloading statements?+
Manual downloads are one-off and unstructured. Kelaro automates the process — connecting directly to your bank and exporting clean, structured data on a schedule, to the destination you choose, in the format you need.
